First Smile and sleeping through the night
Brigitta gave us her first smile to us a couple of days ago. She has been doing it and laughing but only in her sleep (during REM time). We were expecting it for over a week coz a genuine smile was one of the 6 week development. When it didn't happen during that week, I was all worried.
But, that day Kevin had her on his knees, facing him as usual and put up her bare feet to his chin stubble. She probably felt ticklish coz she gave him a big smile. Kevin gave a shout and I quickly went over to them and sure enough, I saw the smile. Now, we have to try to make her laugh. :)
She's also sleeping longer through the night. The first time that happened, I thought something weird had happened. That was when she was 5-6 weeks old. Before that, she was fussy and every time we put her in the crib when we thought she's asleep, she will wake up crying, this went on almost through whole night and during this time, I used it to google "fussy baby at night", and surfing for books on how to get babies to go to sleep. I learnt about the different schools of thought - one says to leave the baby crying, the other says to pick the baby up, and it goes on. The bottom line is that every baby as their own personality and schedules. So, one day after reading about just putting the baby in the crib so that he/she can learn how to self soothe themselves to sleep, I just tried that and was shocked that she actually fell asleep on her own.
However, now, she's fussy in the morning. So, what I do is to "wear" her in a sling or the Baby Bjorn. I'm tired of using the Moby Wrap coz I don't like having so much material on me, and it is cumbersome to have it while nursing even though they say i can nurse when I wear that. She like the sling and the Bjorn but since she's in front, I decided to find another carrier that lets her sleep on my back, and decided to get a korean carrier called the chunei. Kevin had used the traditional korean carrier before so it's kind of funny that now he will probably wear the modern version after over 20 years later. :)
I also bought some toys that I was hoping to distract her. The photo below is her with an Infantino Flutter Bug, it's supposed to be for distracting babies during changing time but parents use it for time so that they can shower, cook , etc. She likes it but only for few minutes at a time. Ah well. I'm still keeping it though coz the very first time I put it up on the crib, she stared at it and actually fell asleep after a few minutes of doing that. Actually, that's when I took the photo below.
Let sleeping babies lie. :)
Cheers

Good luck with your baby Han. When I had my first baby I in the State, I relied on books (no internet yet, 13+ years ago). I'll be an awesome experience - both good and bad.
