Sleep...what's that?

Today, Brigitta Nurilham (suggested nicknames : Illy and Bree) is 6 weeks old which is about a month and a half. She is fitting the 0-3 months clothes easily now, and she's getting heavier. Luckily, our night routines are getting better so that's a great help on our backs and arms. For the last 3 days, she slept for 3 hours straight during the night in her little crib beside us. Yay! And the best part is that she only needs a quick feeding and she will fall right back to sleep. Before, we had to hold her throughout the night coz she didn't want to sleep in her crib. She's like that in the morning now which means I'm the only one holding her. One time, my back hurt so much that I needed to take Tylenol to sleep. But, as Kevin says all the time, "she's worth it". :) I also learnt on taking things a bit easy.

Last Sunday, Kevin and I went to an infant massage class. The other reason we thought she wasn't able to sleep through is because she had gas which we hoped to learn on how to get rid of with a massage. The room was pretty filled up. I didn't have time to feed her right before the class so I was pretty nervous that she would cry. Plus, she wasn't on a feeding schedule, it's as and when she wants to feed so I have no idea if she'll be okay. During the class, I had my eye on her most of the time instead of the teacher. Kevin was the one that practiced massaging on her, the teacher gave me a doll. For the rest of the class, the mothers did the massaging but I didn't mind coz I think it's a great way for Kevin to bond with her. Brigitta couldn't handle the whole session, she cried halfway so we had to feed her (expressed milk in a bottle) and just see what the teacher is doing. But we manage to practice on her for the gas and colic moves coz she was done eating by then. She and the other babies did not like the moves at all coz it deals with their tummy. Since this is so important and useful part, the teacher went to each couple to show us how to do the moves. She said that Brigitta's tummy felt a bit hard. It was actually a relief to hear that coz now it confirms our theory that she was uncomfortable due to constipation or gas.
Ever since that day, we have been massaging her and I think her bowel movement and gas expelling has much improved.

I learnt that with parenthood, the words poop and pee are part of our daily vocabulary. Spit up is the other. It's a whole different lifestyle. I have learnt how to eat faster, cry easily now when I see tv shows when children are involved in it, and only go to family friendly restaurants. Oh yeah, we have eaten outside three times now and changed her in the car once. :)

Today, I went to the doctor for my last post partum check up. The doctor said that my incision looks great, I can now take off the rest of my surgical tape and can also start on birth control. There was a great line I read somewhere online, "when the doctor asks what do you do for birth control at the 6 week post partum checkup, look at her/him and give a big hearty laugh". Parents, you know exactly what this means.

So, no more obgyn visits until a year from now for the normal check up. It's a relief yet feel a bit sad. For the last 8 months, I have been going to the doctor at least once a month, and at the last 3, I had to go twice a month. The thing is, I really looked forward to every visit, it was fun to hear the baby's heartbeat through my tummy and feeling the build up to something really important. Hmm..I wonder if this is why people have loads of kids? However, my head is a bit dizzy at the moment from a lack of sleep, my clothes smell of stale milk and I have some weight to lose. So, till then, I'm happy with one right now.

BTW, below is a photo of Brigitta wearing a jacket with a hood in her car seat. We were going for the infant massage class. See how relaxed she is at the second photo. :)

Happy weekend everyone!

Not looking too happy

All relaxed out

Awww, isn't she a cutie?!:) I was all smiling reading your blog. I'll be experiencing something similar soon and I've already imagined myself with my baby:)
Though at times I feel like I've been pregnant forever, I know that I'll miss all the kickings and movings and squirmings :(
Oh well;)

Take care.

Ha ha ha...talk about that vocabulary..yep ur rite! Another thing I notice is ...REFRAINS...when speaking to my kids or giving them orders, I always say the words or sentences or phrases at least three times...Hah, now I can even sing the "wonderpets' theme ..in fact my friends and I sang it together in the staff room one day..lol! After that, I just couldnt take the song off my brain!
